Adventures with Purpose and Responsibility
At Peru Hikers, we operate in diverse regions where accommodations, transportation, and services may differ from what you are accustomed to. While we strive to deliver the best trekking experiences, unexpected changes or adjustments may occur due to unforeseen events.
Flexibility in Travel Plans
Traveling through Peru may present challenges such as strikes, protests, or weather disruptions (Force Majeure). These circumstances can impact itineraries, and Peru Hikers reserves the right to make adjustments for safety and the continued enjoyment of your journey. These changes will always be in your best interest, but we recommend embracing the flexibility of adventure travel.
Understanding Force Majeure
Force Majeure refers to events beyond our control, including:
- Natural Disasters: Landslides, floods, earthquakes.
- Political Unrest: Strikes, protests, or riots.
- Extreme Weather: Unpredictable rain, storms, or adverse conditions.
- Public Health Emergencies: Events affecting the global or local population’s well-being.
In such cases, we may adjust, postpone, or cancel tours as necessary. Any additional costs incurred from changes to the schedule, such as early departures due to strikes or delays, are the responsibility of the traveler.
Your Responsibility and Risk Awareness
By booking with Peru Hikers, you acknowledge the inherent risks of adventure travel, including:
- Personal injury or accidents
- Medical emergencies
- Travel delays or disruptions
We advise you to purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover these risks and to ensure peace of mind. Peru Hikers does not assume responsibility for these risks and strongly recommends coverage for medical emergencies, cancellations, and other unexpected events.
Travel Insurance
To safeguard your adventure, we recommend purchasing a policy that covers:
- Accidents & Medical Emergencies (including evacuation)
- Trip Cancellations or Delays
- Loss of Luggage or Personal Items
Please provide us with your travel insurance details prior to your arrival in Cusco for verification.
Booking Details and Deposits
Making a Reservation:
A 50% deposit is required for treks to confirm your spot.
An 80% deposit is required for day tours.
Deposits are non-refundable due to the upfront costs associated with securing permits and services.
Payments can be made via:
- We Travel Payment Bank Transfer, subject to a 1% transaction fee.
VISA, MasterCard, or American Express, subject to a 3.5% transaction fee. or depending on the card transaction fee.
Final Payment:
The remaining balance must be paid at least 2 days before your tour at our Cusco office.

Cancellation Policies
Deposit Policy:
Deposits are 100% non-refundable due to government regulations and upfront costs incurred by Peru Hikers.
Cancellation Fees:
- 3 + months before departure: Forfeit your deposit.
- 2–1 month before departure: 60% of the total price.
- 4 weeks to 5 days before departure: 80% of the total price.
- Less than 48 hours before departure: 100% of the total price.
Cancellations during the trek are non-refundable unless Peru Hikers is at fault.
Student Discounts
We offer the following discounts for students (proof required):
- Ages 12–17: $25 off.
- Ages 2–11: $30 off.
- Under 2 years: Free.
To qualify for the discount, students must provide a valid passport copy at the time of booking.
Acclimatization Recommendations
For a safe and enjoyable trekking experience:
- Spend 2-4 days at high altitudes (above 3,000m/9,842ft) before your trek.
- Stay hydrated, eat a carbohydrate-rich diet, and avoid alcohol and tobacco.
- Drink coca tea and consult your doctor about altitude sickness medication like Diamox if necessary.
Pre-Trek Briefing
A mandatory briefing will take place the evening before your trek at either 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM. During the briefing, we will provide:
- Duffel bags
- Sleeping gear
- Walking sticks (if rented)
