The tour will commence with a pick-up at 8:00 am, followed by a visit to Alpaca Farm, Taray Viewpoint, Pisaq ruins, Urubamba, Salt Mines, and the Ollantaytambo Inca site. Spend the night in Ollantaytambo, also known as “The Last Inca Town”.

We will start our day at 8:00 am by picking you up and heading to an intriguing and historic location. This site has been utilized since the Inca Empire to extract natural salts and is known as Moray. After exploring Moray, we will visit the charming Chinchero village and the fascinating Ollantaytambo. Later in the evening, we will take the train to Aguas Calientes town, where we will spend the night in a comfortable hotel.

DAY 4

Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu & Train Journey Back to Cusco

Today, we plan to wake up early and have breakfast at the hotel before boarding the first buses to Machu Picchu. We will have a 3-hour guided tour of the citadel and then take the Panoramic Vistadome train back. We should arrive in Cusco around 7.00 pm and return to our hotel.

DAY 5

Cusco – Trailhead - Rainbow Mountain - Cusco (Small group)

We will leave Cusco in the morning to embark on an exclusive journey to witness the awe-inspiring Rainbow Mountain and the captivating Red Valley. Your tour includes breakfast and lunch.

DAY 1

City Tour Cusco

We will meet you at your hotel lobby at 1 p.m. to begin your tour. First, we will head to Cusco’s Plaza de Armas where you will visit the famous cathedral. Then, we will continue on foot through an ancient Inca-built street to Q’oricancha, the Temple of the Sun. At the temple, you can compare and contrast the building methods of the Incan culture and Catholicism. It was the main spiritual center of the Incas, which led to all four quarters of the Inca Empire. You can also see a bronze, high altar.

After Q’oricancha, we will walk down Avenida El Sol and take a 25-minute bus outside the city to the majestic Inca site, Sacsayhuaman. Here, your tour guide will show you around and give you a history of the spectacular Sacsayhuaman fortress.

From Sacsayhuaman, we will take a short bus ride to the Qenqo Inca site to observe some altars from Incan times. Finally, we will drive to Puca Pucara, a small circular Inca site, before finishing with a visit to Tambomachay, the temple of water. We will then drive you back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.

DAY 2

Cusco, Sacred Valley, Meet Locals, Pisac, Inca Bar, Ollantaytambo

Your Sacred Valley Tour will commence at 8 a.m. as your guide arrives to collect you from the hotel lobby. You will embark on a scenic drive along a mountainous road north of Cusco, making a stop at the Alpaca Farm en route. Here, you will have the opportunity to feed and interact with the four South American camelid species and learn about ancient weaving techniques.

Continuing on, we will arrive at the renowned El Mirador (Lookout Point of the Sacred Valley), where you will be able to witness the breathtakingly beautiful Sacred Valley and gain insight into the Inca history. The Sacred Valley was a significant region where the Incas established their settlements, owing to its unusual abundance of fertile plains amidst the high Andes. You will also have the chance to see the vast contour terracing and irrigation channels that the Incas left behind.

Later in the day, we will drive to the Pisac ruins, where you will learn about the fascinating Inca culture and see impressive agricultural terraces and stone art. We will also visit a bustling handicraft market in the lower town of Pisac, where you can take your time browsing and bargaining for souvenirs.

For lunch, we will dine at a local Andean restaurant before continuing our journey along the Urubamba River towards Ollantaytambo town. Once there, we will visit the ruins, a significant Incan construction that was built during the Inca’s peak. An extraordinary aspect of this site is the rock formations that represent the Inca god, Wiracocha. Finally, we will drop you off at your hotel in Ollantaytambo town.

After Moray, we will visit the mysterious Salt Mines, which have been in use since pre-Inca times and feature over 5,000 salt evaporation ponds carved into the mountain side. The ponds are filled daily by a stream of salt water, and the construction is different than that of the Incas. We will then drive to Chinchero, where you will explore the Inca archaeological site and some agriculture terraces that were once used to farm potatoes. You will also see and learn about the Christian church, which was built by the Spaniards on top of the Inca temple. Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu & Train Journey Back to Cusco

We will depart early in the morning at 5:30 AM for a fascinating journey. You will board a bus in the quaint town of Machu Picchu, which will take you on an ascending route to the entrance of Machu Picchu. The peak is nestled at an altitude of 2450 m / 8.038 ft. The journey is filled with panoramic views that promise to leave an indelible imprint on your memory.

Upon arrival, you’ll use your entrance tickets to gain access to the world-famous Inca citadel. Here, you’ll embark on an unforgettable exploration of the ancient ruins. You’ll walk through the Inca Trail, marveling at the intricate stone constructions along the way. If time allows, you may also catch the breathtaking sunrise over the Sun Gate.

The tour guide will lead you through the key areas of interest within Machu Picchu. They will offer detailed insights into the historical and cultural significance of each site. After the tour, you’ll have time to explore independently. Those who have tickets to Huayna Picchu will have time to climb the mountain, which takes approximately an hour and a half round-trip.

Start time: 05:30 a.m.
Machu Picchu visit: 5 to 6 hours
Physical Rating: Moderate (except Huaynapicchu or Machu Picchu Montaña, they are Demanding)
Train Schedule: It can be at 2:55 p.m.- 3:20 p.m.- 4:22 p.m. Or 4:43 p.m. (depending on the availability)

Note:

DAY 5

Cusco – Trailhead - Rainbow Mountain - Cusco (Small group)

We will be happy to pick you up from any hotel, Airbnb, or hostel in Cusco between 4:00 and 4:30 am. The journey to the trailhead will take about 3 hours, and we should arrive at approximately 7 am. Our chef will prepare a delicious breakfast for you during the drive, which will include coffee, hot chocolate, teas, bread, fruit salad, eggs, and hot drinks. Cusco’s elevation is 3300m / 11,300ft, whereas the trailhead, known as Phulawasipata, is at 4700 m/ 15.41995 ft, making it even colder than the city. Therefore, it’s essential to pack warm clothes, such as a jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves. The uphill hike to Rainbow Mountain will take us around 2 hours, or 2¾ hours at a slower pace, while some people who are more fit and acclimatized can do it in 1½ hours. The guide will stop for some short breaks along the way to share some information about the geography of the area and the mountains. You may also spot some llamas and alpacas that often frequent the area. The trail is quite wide and suitable for those with vertigo or a fear of heights. The trek is best during the dry season as the trails are not paved, and it can be dusty. However, with good waterproof hiking shoes and trekking poles, you will be just fine.

Once we arrive at the Rainbow Mountain summit, around 9-10:00 am, you will have about an hour to explore the stunning views of the valleys and mountains. You will also be able to see the highest glacial mountain in Cusco, Ausangate, which stands at an elevation of 6,384m / 20,944ft, making it one of the tallest mountains in Peru. Your guide will share some interesting facts about the area, including the reason for the colorful landscape and some details about Incan history. We will take a few last photos before beginning our descent. Unlike other groups, we hike to a lookout point to see the Red Valley, which many hikers say is even more beautiful than Rainbow Mountain! It will take us approximately 2½ hours mostly downhill to reach the end of the trail, near where we started the hike. After this magical adventure, we will drive to a lunch place and enjoy a fresh meal prepared by our chef, which includes cold drinks, appetizers, soup, and the main course. We should be back in Cusco at around 5:30 – 6:00 pm, where we will drop you off at your hotel.

Travel protection is essential for your peace of mind and safety throughout the journey.

Emergency medical transport and air ambulances in remote locations can be extremely expensive and will probably not be covered by your medical health plan, so it is mandatory that you purchase personal travel insurance.
Your insurance must cover, personal accident, medical expenses, air ambulance, repatriation costs and all other expenses.
There are several insurance companies offering travel protection plans available for purchase online. Very important when you take (adventure – activities).

    Lost Items

You are responsible for your personal items throughout the journey. Please be diligent about where you leave your things and remember to remove all items from our bus, tent, restaurant, etc. Don’t leave anything unintended while hiking. Other trekkers or groups may pick it up not knowing who it belongs to.

How Is The Weather In Peru?

It depends on where you visit.
On the coast of Peru it is usually quite hot although during the dry season (April – August) it can get chilly early in the morning and at night.
In the Andes of Cusco you will find two main seasons – wet and dry. The wet season runs from November to April but is usually warmer overall.
The dry season runs from May to October and has hot clear days but cold nights.
Peruvian weather is difficult to accurately predict. You can see beautiful clear hot days in the middle of the wet season and hail storms in the dry season – this is the magic and beauty of Peru.

    What Is Altitude?

The primary cause of altitude sickness is going to high too quickly. Given time your body can adapt to the decrease in oxygen at specific altitudes. This is known as acclimatization and generally takes 1 to 3 nights at the given altitude.

    Prevention Of Altitude Sickness

Don’t over – exert yourself or move higher for the first 24 hours.
If you go above 10,000ft ( 3,047m), increase your sleeping elevation by 1,000ft (305m) per day and for every 3,000ft ( 915m) of elevation gained, take a rest day.
If you start to show symptoms of moderate altitude sickness, don’t go higher until symptoms decrease.
If symptoms increase, go down and down.
Keep in mind that different people will acclimatize at different rates.
    Stay properly hydrated.
Take it easy; don’t over – exert yourself when you first get up to altitude.
Avoid tobacco, alcohol or other depressant drugs including tranquilizers and sleeping pills.
Eat a high carbohydrates diet while at altitude.

    Preventive Medications

Diamox (acetazolamide) changes acid balance which allows you to increase breathing and improve oxygen uptake – the same mechanism as in normal acclimatization, but faster.
Dexamethasone(a steroid) is a drug decrease brain and other swelling, helping to reserve the effects.

    Tipping

It is customary in Latin America to tip service providers such as waiters, at approximately 10%, depending on the service. Tipping is expected – though not compulsory. Anything extra will be an expression of satisfaction for the persons who have assisted you on your tour. This is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your journey.
If at the end of your journey you feel your guide and support team did an amazing job, Tipping is appreciated. For the guide, this is more personal, it would be the most welcome. It is of course at your discretion or whatever you are comfortable leaving….

The Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) in the Peruvian Andes is truly a wonder of nature. Its vibrant coloring is a unique result of mineral deposits in the rock layers, and it is surrounded by the majestic Mount Ausangate – the highest peak in the Cusco region (6400 m/20,997 ft.) As you explore this breathtaking landscape, you’ll witness the authentic way of life of the local people, who live in harmony with Pachamama.

Is the Rainbow Mountain hike difficult?

The Rainbow Mountain trek can be challenging due to the high altitude (over 5,000 meters / 16,400 feet). Altitude sickness can be a concern, so acclimatization is essential.

When embarking on your journey to explore the wonders of Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Rainbow Mountain, it’s essential to keep a few things in mind. Remember your passport, extra cash, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Leave heavy equipment behind and opt for a camera to capture your memories. You are protected from the elements by packing bug spray and sun protection and dressed appropriately for the heat and cold. Comfortable shoes and a light waterproof layer will keep you comfortable in unexpected rain showers. Lastly, could you bring your swimsuit for a refreshing dip in the hot springs of Aguas Calientes? With these essentials, you can enjoy your adventure and create unforgettable memories.
