DAY 1

Cusco, Mollepata, Soraypampa, Humantay Lake & Salkantay Pampa - 08km/ 4.9miles

Our departure from Cusco is scheduled for 5 am sharp. As soon as we reach Mollepata town, we’ll be treated to a delicious breakfast prepared by our chef. Afterward, we’ll take a car to Soraypampa, where we’ll kick off our trek to Humantay Lake and then proceed to our campsite at Salkantay Pampa.

DAY 2

Salkantay Pampa, Salkantay Pass, Huayracmachay & Collpapampa - 22 km / 13.7 miles

Start your day with a refreshing cup of coffee or tea and savor a delicious breakfast while admiring the stunning mountain views. Embark on a 2-hour hike to reach the Salkantay pass, situated at an altitude of 4630 meters. After that, trek for another 3 hours to reach the lunch spot. The second leg of your journey involves a 3-hour descent to reach the 2nd campsite Collpapampa, located at an altitude of 2770 meters.

DAY 3

Collpapampa, La Playa & Lucmabamba - 18 km / 11.2 miles

Start your day by waking up in your tent and having breakfast. We will embark on a 3-hour hike through the cloud forest. Afterwards, we will stop for lunch in La Playa village. Finally, we will arrive at our campsite, Lucmabamba, which sits at 2050 meters or 6,724 ft above sea level.

DAY 4

Lucmabamba, Llactapata, Hydroelectric & Train Journey to Aguas Calientes - 11km / 6.83 miles

We wake up at 6am and begin our 3-hour hike up to Llaqtapata, situated on a mountain facing Machu Picchu. After our hike, we descend to Hydroelectric for a satisfying lunch. Following our meal, we board the train to Aguas Calientes where we will be staying for the night at a hotel Jaya or similar.

DAY 5

Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo & Cusco

We start our day with an early breakfast and then board the early buses to reach Machu Picchu in time for the sunrise. Our expert tour guide will help us explore the best of Machu Picchu. Once we finish our tour, we can take the panoramic trains and bus back to our hotel in Cusco.

DAY 1

Cusco, Mollepata, Soraypampa, Humantay Lake & Salkantay Pampa

Your expert guide will pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 a.m. In a private transport and drive for 2 hours towards Tarahuasi, where you will stop for a while to learn about a beautiful Inca site with its religious constructions, you will then continue to Mollepata village, the place where you have a nutritious breakfast, after breakfast, you will continue your trip up to Soraypampa at 3850 meters. Here it is the place you will start this authentic experience. You start hiking apwards for 2 hours until we reach the highest point of the trail, on the way you see a beautiful landscape surrounded by magical mountains. After an exciting hike you will be impressed with the panoramic views of the turquoise lake at 4200m.a.s.l./13779ft. You will be close to the impressive Humantay glaciers and it is the right place where you get connection with sacred Nature and its beauty. After enjoying, you will return to Soraypampa for lunch, and after, you will have some 35 minutes to rest and then continue for another 1h 30 minutes to reach your first campsite SalkantayPampa.

Once you get your campsite, you will get to know, and understand more Why the mountains are calling and You must go!! because, you will overnight in the middle of wonderful peaks, no tourists, just thousands ofstars in the dark sky, and the impressive Salkantay Mountain 6270 meters / 20570 feet. DAY 2

Salkantay Pampa, Salkantay Pass, Huayracmachay & Collpapampa

You will wake up with a hot cup of coca tea before the first rays of the sun touch the horizon and enjoy a nutritious breakfast. After enjoying, you will start trekking up to the highest point of the journey: Salkantay pass 4,650meters/15,255ft. On the way you will see the awesome views, when you reach the top of the pass, you will have the Salkantay mountain (6270 meters / 20570 feet.) right next to you and appreciate the spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and the amazing snowy peaks of Humantay, Pumasillo and Tucarhuay mountains. Leaving behind the high pass, you will walk downhill for couple hours to Huayracmachay, the place where you enjoy lunch and rest for 35 minutes. At this point of the trek all the scenary totally changes, you will enter the upper part of the Amazon jungle or the cloud forest. As you descend toward the next camp at Collpapampa, you will see beautiful sights of waterfall, cross over rivers of crystal water, and walk through the thick of tropical montane cloud forest. At the end of this impressive hike, you arrive at Collpapampa, a beautiful place where you get a good sleep in the warmth of the lowlands to recover your energy for the next day adventure. DAY 3

Collpapampa, La Playa & Lucmabamba

You will rise before the sun early in the morning, and have a great breakfast. Today is easier than the other days, because, it is mostly flat. You will start trekking along the bank of the river and through the Santa Teresa valley. Along the way you will have the opportunity to amaze the lush landscape of the cloud forest during your 6 hours of hiking. You will see crystal-clear rivers, waterfalls, birds, wild orchids, and plantation of coffee, banana and avocado. You will taste one of the local native fruits, which is Granadilla a family of passion fruit, and then, you will arrive at lunch and campsite Lucmabamba at 2050 meters / 6,724 ft. In the afternoon, you will explore, learn, and taste the organic coffee freshly prepared by the local people!! Coffee is the main farming industry of the locals here in the jungle, and they farm many acres of coffee to export to? the USA, Asia, and Europe. You will also explore avocado and orange plantations and taste those healthy fruits. (Meals B, L & D)

DAY 4

Lucmabamba, Llactapata, Hydroelectric & Train Journey to Aguas Calientes

You will wake up with a cup of coca tea, followed by a nutritious breakfast prepared by our professional chef. Today, you will conquer a small part of the famous Inca Trail. This section will be a climb of 3 hours with amazing views of Santa Teresa valley, and a beautiful ancient path that Incas used for trading and connecting to the spiritual place of Machu Picchu. Once you finish climbing those 3 hours, you will arrive to Llactapata Inca site right in front of Machu Picchu, it is about 5 km / 3.11 miles away. This is the second Inca site you will explore on the trek, this place is very special to enjoy and learn more about culture and history of the Incas. You will also amaze of Huayna Picchu Mountain and Machu Picchu Montaña, magical peaks of Machu Picchu city. After a great experience at Llactapata, you will continue hiking downhill for 2 hours. On this section of the path, you walk into this magical valley of Machu Picchu and always enjoying the views of the place until you arrive at the Hidroeléctrica train station, the place where you will enjoy a delicious last lunch prepared by your professional chef. And then, you will take the scenic train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) for about 45 minutes, after the fantastic train journey, you will go to your hotel and enjoy a hot shower. In the evening at 6:30 p.m. You will have a delicious dinner at one of the many restaurants in Aguas Calientes (this dinner is included). (Meals B, L & D)

DAY 5

Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo & Cusco

You will visit one of the greatest place on earth, Machu Picchu!! After an early breakfast, you will board the bus to go up to Machu Picchu, The New Wonder of the World. And then, you will start to explore this fascinating crystal city with your expert guide for 2 hours’ history lesson. After your guided tour, you wil have free time to keep exploring on your own or climb Huaynapicchu mountain. (This is a separate entrance ticket and costs $75 per person). Then, you will come down to Aguas Calientes to enjoy your lunch in a local restaurant. this is optional not included. After lunch, you will catch the train at 15:20 or 16:22 pm to Ollantaytambo.HM private bus will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel.

It is also important to have well acclimatization to the altitude. Try to spend at least 2 or 3 days in Cusco (3,400m/11,154ft) prior to start your Trek.

Are There Toilets On the Salkantay Trek?

What happens if I am unable to finish the Classic Salkantay Trek?

Hello Machu Picchu will assist you to the nearest city for help with transportation.

Generally, we transport you to Mollepata town, when you recover quickly you will continue with the journey towards Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu (cost incurred by traveler) according to the original plan.

How Is the Weather in Peru?

It depends on where you visit.
On the coast of Peru is usually quite hot although during the dry season (April – August) it can get chilly early in the morning and at night. In the Andes of Cusco, you will find two main seasons – wet and dry. The wet season runs from November toApril but is usually warmer overall.
The dry season runs from May to October and has hot clear days but cold nights.
Peruvian weather is difficult to accurately predict. You can see beautiful clear hot days in the middle of the wet season and hail storms in the dry season – this is the magic and beauty of Peru.

What Is Altitude?

The primary cause of altitude sickness is going to high too quickly. Given time your body can adapt to the decrease in oxygen at specific altitudes. This is known as acclimatization and generally takes 1 to 3 nights at the given altitude.

Prevention of Altitude Sickness

Dont over – exert yourself or move higher for the first 24 hours.
If you go above 10,000ft (3,047m), increase your sleeping elevation by 1,000ft (305m) per day and for every 3,000ft (915m) of elevation gained, take a rest day.
If you start to show of symptoms of moderate altitude sickness, dont go higher until symptoms decrease If symptoms increase, go down and down.
Keep in mind that different people will acclimatize at different rates. Stay properly hydrated.
Take it easy; dont over – exert yourself when you first get up to altitude.
Avoid tobacco, alcohol or other depressant drugs including, tranquilizers and sleeping pills.
Eat a high carbohydrates diet while at altitude.

Preventive Medications

Diamox (acetazolamide) changes acid balance which allows you to increase breathing and improve oxygen uptake – the same mechanism as in normal acclimatization, but faster.
Dexamethasone (a steroid) is a drug decrease brain and other swelling, helping to reserve the effects.

Tipping

It is customary in Latin America to tip service providers such as waiters, at approximately 10%, depending on the service. Tipping is an expected – though not compulsory. Anything extra will be an expression of satisfaction for the persons who have assisted you on your tour. This is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your journey.
If at the end of your Trek you feel your trekking guide and support team did an amazing job, tipping is appreciated. Avoid tobacco, alcohol or other depressant drugs including, tranquilizers and sleeping pills.
Eat a high carbohydrates diet while at altitude.

Preventive Medications

Diamox (acetazolamide) changes acid balance which allows you to increase breathing and improve oxygen uptake – the same mechanism as in normal acclimatization, but faster.
Dexamethasone (a steroid) is a drug decrease brain and other swelling, helping to reserve the effects.

Tipping

It is customary in Latin America to tip service providers such as waiters, at approximately 10%, depending on the service. Tipping is an expected – though not compulsory. Anything extra will be an expression of satisfaction for the persons who have assisted you on your tour. This is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your journey.
If at the end of your Trek you feel your trekking guide and support team did an amazing job, tipping is appreciated. The suggestion is that each hiker contributes the following to the collective pool. The amount recommended is different per trek and listed below. For the guide, this is more personal, it would be the most welcome. It is of course at your discretion or whatever you are comfortable leaving….
