We will meet you at your hotel lobby at 1:00 PM to begin your tour. First, we head to Cusco’s Plaza de Armas where you will visit the famous Cathedral. Then, we continue on foot through an ancient Inca-built street to Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun). At the temple, you can compare and contrast the building methods of the Incan culture and Catholicism; this was the main spiritual center of the Incas, leading to all four quarters of the Empire. You can also see a bronze, high altar inside. After walking down Avenida El Sol, we take a 25-minute bus ride to the majestic Inca site of Sacsayhuaman, where your guide will share the history of this spectacular fortress. From there, we visit Qenqo to observe ancient altars, followed by Puca Pucara, a small circular Inca site. Finally, we finish with a visit to Tambomachay, the temple of water. We will then drive you back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.
We pick you up at 8:00 AM for a full-day adventure into the fertile Sacred Valley. We begin at a local Alpaca Farm and the Taray Viewpoint for stunning photos. Next, we explore the Pisac archaeological site and its vibrant artisanal market, perfect for finding authentic souvenirs. For lunch, we will dine at a local Andean restaurant before continuing our journey along the Urubamba River towards Ollantaytambo. Once there, we visit the ruins, a significant construction built during the Inca’s peak, featuring extraordinary rock formations that represent the Inca god, Wiracocha. Finally, we will drop you off at your hotel in Ollantaytambo town.
We start our day at 8:00 AM, delving into the agricultural ingenuity of the Incas at the circular terraces of Moray. Next, we visit the famous Maras Salt Mines, where over 5,000 salt pools have been harvested since pre-Inca times a spectacular sight for photography. We conclude the tour with a visit to the traditional weaving village of Chinchero. Later in the evening, we board the train to Aguas Calientes, settling into a comfortable hotel at the foot of Machu Picchu. The train departs from Ollantaytambo at either 15:37 or 19:04, depending on how far in advance you book and/or the availability of the train.
We begin our journey at 5:30 AM, boarding the bus for a scenic ride up to the entrance of Machu Picchu (2,430 m / 7,972 ft). Upon arrival, you will enjoy a comprehensive guided tour of the citadel, exploring its most significant temples, terraces, and intricate stone constructions while soaking in the breathtaking views. If time permits, we may even catch the sunrise over the surrounding peaks.
After the tour, you will have free time to explore on your own or hike Huayna Picchu (if permits were booked). We then descend by bus to Aguas Calientes to board your return train to Cusco. Enjoy the panoramic views on the ride back, arriving in the city approximately around 7:30 PM.
We pick you up between 4:00 and 4:30 AM to begin our journey to the trailhead at Phulawasipata (4,700 m / 15,419 ft). After a nutritious hot breakfast prepared by our chef, we embark on a 2-hour uphill hike to the Rainbow Mountain summit. Here, you will have ample time to soak in the breathtaking views of the Vilcanota mountain range and the imposing Ausangate glacier, the highest in Cusco.
Unlike standard tours, our descent takes us through the spectacular Red Valley, a hidden gem often considered more beautiful than the mountain itself. After exploring this unique landscape, we enjoy a freshly prepared lunch before driving back to Cusco, dropping you off at your hotel around 5:30 – 6:00 PM. Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch Entrance Tickets: Included

Insurance
Travel protection is essential for your peace of mind and safety throughout the journey.
Unexpected medical emergencies or illnesses prior to your trip could make you lose prepaid, non refundable payments. Emergency medical transport and air ambulances in remote locations can be extremely expensive and will probably not be covered by your medical health plan, so it is mandatory that you purchase personal travel insurance.
Your insurance must cover, personal accident, medical expenses, air ambulance, repatriation costs and all other expenses.
There are several insurance companies offering travel protection plans available for purchase online. Very important when you take (adventure – activities).
Lost Items
You are responsible for your personal items throughout the journey. Please be diligent about where you leave your things and remember to remove all items from our bus, tent, restaurant, etc. Don’t leave anything unintended while hiking. Other trekkers or groups may pick it up not knowing who it belongs to.
How Is The Weather In Peru?
It depends on where you visit.
On the coast of Peru it is usually quite hot although during the dry season (April – August) it can get chilly early in the morning and at night.
In the Andes of Cusco you will find two main seasons – wet and dry. The wet season runs from November to April but is usually warmer overall.
The dry season runs from May to October and has hot clear days but cold nights.
Peruvian weather is difficult to accurately predict. You can see beautiful clear hot days in the middle of the wet season and hail storms in the dry season – this is the magic and beauty of Peru.
What Is Altitude?
The primary cause of altitude sickness is going to high too quickly. Given time your body can adapt to the decrease in oxygen at specific altitudes. This is known as acclimatization and generally takes 1 to 3 nights at the given altitude.
Prevention Of Altitude Sickness
Don’t over – exert yourself or move higher for the first 24 hours.
If you go above 10,000ft ( 3,047m), increase your sleeping elevation by 1,000ft (305m) per day and for every 3,000ft ( 915m) of elevation gained, take a rest day.
If you start to show symptoms of moderate altitude sickness, don’t go higher until symptoms decrease.
If symptoms increase, go down and down.
Keep in mind that different people will acclimatize at different rates.
Stay properly hydrated.
Take it easy; don’t over – exert yourself when you first get up to altitude.
Avoid tobacco, alcohol or other depressant drugs including tranquilizers and sleeping pills.
Eat a high carbohydrates diet while at altitude.
Preventive Medications
Diamox (acetazolamide) changes acid balance which allows you to increase breathing and improve oxygen uptake – the same mechanism as in normal acclimatization, but faster.
Dexamethasone(a steroid) is a drug decrease brain and other swelling, helping to reserve the effects.
Tipping
It is customary in Latin America to tip service providers such as waiters, at approximately 10%, depending on the service. Tipping is expected – though not compulsory. Anything extra will be an expression of satisfaction for the persons who have assisted you on your tour. This is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your journey.
If at the end of your journey you feel your guide and support team did an amazing job, Tipping is appreciated. For the guide, this is more personal, it would be the most welcome. It is of course at your discretion or whatever you are comfortable leaving….

Those aged between 11 and 17 can avail of a discount of USD 30, while children between 2 and 11 can get a discount of USD 35. To help with the student discount, all students must provide a copy of their passport and student card while booking. The document can be sent to us at info@peruhikers.com.
The Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) in the Peruvian Andes is truly a wonder of nature. Its vibrant coloring is a unique result of mineral deposits in the rock layers, and it is surrounded by the majestic Mount Ausangate – the highest peak in the Cusco region (6400 m/20,997 ft.) As you explore this breathtaking landscape, you’ll witness the authentic way of life of the local people, who live in harmony with Pachamama.
Is the Rainbow Mountain hike difficult?
The Rainbow Mountain trek can be challenging due to the high altitude (over 5,000 meters / 16,400 feet). Altitude sickness can be a concern, so acclimatization is essential.
When embarking on your journey to explore the wonders of Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Rainbow Mountain, it’s essential to keep a few things in mind. Remember your passport, extra cash, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Leave heavy equipment behind and opt for a camera to capture your memories. You are protected from the elements by packing bug spray and sun protection and dressed appropriately for the heat and cold. Comfortable shoes and a light waterproof layer will keep you comfortable in unexpected rain showers. Lastly, could you bring your swimsuit for a refreshing dip in the hot springs of Aguas Calientes? With these essentials, you can enjoy your adventure and create unforgettable memories.
