Your adventure begins with an early 2:00 am hotel pick-up in Cusco. We drive for three hours to the trailhead at Soraypampa. Here, you will enjoy a hearty breakfast to fuel the day ahead on your Salkantay Trek 3 Days. The main objective is conquering the magnificent Salkantay Pass (4,630m / 15,190 ft). The panoramic views of the sacred mountain are your reward. After celebrating at the summit, we begin the long descent towards our camp. The trail transforms before your eyes. We will spend the night in our exclusive Mountain Sky Huts at Chaullay.
We wake up surrounded by the sounds of the cloud forest. Today’s trek is a dramatic descent into the upper Amazon jungle. We will follow the course of the Santa Teresa River. The path is rich with vibrant flora, wild orchids, and coffee plantations. This part of the Short Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is warm and humid. We will pass through the village of La Playa. From there, we take transport to the Hidroelectrica station. A final trek along the train tracks brings us to Aguas Calientes. You will check into your hostel for a well deserved rest.
The final day of your Salkantay Trek 3 Days starts before sunrise. We take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu. This allows you to experience the citadel in the soft morning light. Your guide will lead a comprehensive tour of the Inca sanctuary. You will explore its most important temples, plazas, and viewpoints. After immersing yourself in the magic of the site, you will have free time to explore. In the afternoon, we return to Aguas Calientes. We will then board the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a private transfer back to your hotel in Cusco.
