Have you ever dreamt of a journey that tests your limits and rewards you with wonders? We invite you to discover the wild heart of the Andes on our Salkantay Trek 4 Days. This is more than a hike; it is a transformative path to Machu Picchu. We designed this Short Salkantay Trek for adventurers who crave the full epic experience but have less time. It captures the absolute best of the classic route in a powerful, compact adventure.
We will guide you through breathtaking landscapes. You will stand before the turquoise gem of Humantay Lake. Then, you will conquer the formidable Salkantay Pass at 4,630 meters, with glaciers towering above you. From the icy highlands, we descend into the lush, vibrant upper Amazon jungle. Here, you’ll see coffee plantations, passion fruit vines, and exotic birds. This incredible Andean trekking to Machu Picchu showcases Peru’s dramatic biodiversity. At night, you will rest under the stars in our exclusive Quiswarniyoc camp. Sleep comfortably in our unique Mountain Sky Huts with glass doors framing the majestic peaks.
This journey is a profound connection with nature and history. It’s a challenging yet immensely rewarding alternative to the traditional Classic Inca Trail 4 Day . While our classic Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu 5D/4N offers more time, this 4 day version ensures you miss none of the essential highlights. Let us handle every detail. Your only focus will be the path ahead and the unforgettable moments you create. Book your adventure and answer the call of the mountains.
We begin our adventure early, picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Our private transport takes us on a scenic two-hour drive to Mollepata for a delicious breakfast. Afterward, we continue to Soraypampa, the starting point of our trek. Here, you will meet our team of muleteers and horses. We start with a magnificent two-hour uphill hike to the stunning Humantay Lake trek. You will have ample time to explore and photograph this turquoise glacial lagoon. For those who want a shorter visit, we also offer a specific Humantay Lake Full Day (HUMANTAY LAKE FULL DAY) tour. Following our visit, we hike down to our exclusive Quiswarniyoc camp for lunch. You can then rest or explore, perhaps taking a short hike to the Salkantay viewpoint. Your night will be spent in our cozy Mountain Sky Huts.
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the Salkantay Trek 4 Days. We’ll wake you early with hot coca tea before a nourishing breakfast. Then, we begin the steady 3 to 4-hour ascent to the trek’s highest point: the incredible Salkantay Pass at 4,630 meters. The panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks are truly breathtaking. At the summit, your guide will explain the sacred significance of these mountains and lead a small Andean ritual. From there, we descend for two hours to our lunch spot. The trail continues downwards for three more hours into a changing ecosystem. We finally arrive at our second camp in Chaullay (2,900 m), located at the edge of the Peruvian Amazon.
Today, we immerse ourselves in the lush high jungle, or “ceja de selva.” We start hiking after breakfast, following the Santa Teresa Valley for about five hours. This section is an incredible display of biodiversity. You will see coffee, banana, avocado, and coca plantations along the way. We will arrive at La Playa Sahuayaco, where we take local transport to the town of Santa Teresa for lunch. Afterward, a 45-minute car ride brings us to Hidroeléctrica. From here, a final three-hour hike along the scenic train tracks leads us to Aguas Calientes. This town sits at the foot of Machu Picchu. We will check you into your hotel before gathering for a final group dinner.
The final day begins before dawn. We wake up early to start the ascent to Machu Picchu’s main entrance. You can choose to hike the one hour trail upstairs or take the bus. We will enter the citadel as the sun rises, ready for our 2.5-hour guided tour. Your expert guide will reveal the secrets of the Lost City of the Incas. You’ll learn about its history, architecture, and the deep Cultural Insights in the Salkantay Trek that connect it to the mountains. After the tour, you will have free time to explore on your own. Later, we will return to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our private transport will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
