Day 1: Cusco to the Andean Highlands of Cuncani

Our journey begins with an early 6:00 a.m. departure from Cusco, traveling by private van to the town of Lares. This scenic four-hour drive is the gateway to our Andean adventure. After a hearty lunch, we start a five-hour uphill hike through lush valleys populated by llamas and alpacas. The path leads us to our first campsite in the small Quechua community of Cuncani. This evening offers a unique opportunity for a cultural experience, connecting with local people, learning about their traditions, and sleeping under a brilliant canopy of stars.

Day 2: Conquering the Sicllaqasa Pass

Today is the most challenging day of this high-altitude trek. After an early breakfast, we begin a five-hour ascent to the highest point: the Sicllaqasa Pass at 4,800 meters. The trail takes us through diverse microclimates with breathtaking views of snow-capped Andean peaks like Qolqecruz and Sahuasiray. Reaching the summit is a moment of pure triumph. From there, we descend for about an hour and a half to our lunch spot. The final stretch is a downhill walk to our campsite, which offers stunning views of the remote Urubamba canyon and the Milky Way.

Our trek concludes at the Puma Marka community, where we enter the famous Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our private transport will then take us to Ollantaytambo for lunch and a chance to witness impressive Inca history. In the afternoon, we board the Expedition train for a scenic 1.5-hour journey to Aguas Calientes, the town nestled below Machu Picchu, for a comfortable night’s rest in a hotel.

Day 4: The Crystal City of Machu Picchu

Afterward, you will have free time to explore the Inca citadel at your own pace. If you have pre-booked a ticket, you can climb Huayna Picchu mountain. Later, we return to Aguas Calientes for lunch before boarding the afternoon train to Ollantaytambo. There, our private bus will be waiting to transfer you directly back to your hotel in Cusco.

Your guide will hold a detailed briefing at our Cusco office at 6:00 p.m. the night before you depart.

We pick you up directly from your hotel, as long as it is located in the center of Cusco city.
